Truck Restraints
What are Truck Restraints?
Truck restraints, also known as vehicle restraints, is a device installed on a loading dock that can be linked to dock leveler to prevent the dock leveler from operating when the vehicle is not secured. Loading dock restraints ensure safety during the loading process and helps you keep your trailer and cargo where they should be. A vehicle restraint can also help keep your very expensive trailer and cargo at the dock where it belongs rather than disappearing as soon as you leave for the day.
When the lorry is reversed into the loading bay, its rear end touches the integral steel frame with built-in springs, which are pressed downwards, allowing the rear of the vehicle to be fully reversed straight against the frame. The operator then presses the control button to raise the hook upwards and hook it onto the rear crossbar. The hook can withstand pulling forces of up to 16 tonnes.
How Does Truck Restraints Work?
- When the truck is backed into the loading dock leveler, the platform staff presses the lock button on the control panel to raise the limiter and secure the truck.
- The LED indicator shows inner green/outer red and the van is restricted. And it can withstand a pulling force of over 14.5 tons.
- The limiter stays in contact with the crash bar and is automatically adjusted by the float of the truck to ensure that it is always effectively limited during the loading/unloading operation.
- The truck restraints device maintains contact with the tail boom and automatically adjusts with the float of the truck, ensuring that the restraint is always effective during loading/unloading operations.
- When loading is complete, the dock leveler operator unlocks the truck by pressing the unlock button on the control panel.

Vertical Lift Truck Restraints
Vertical restraint locks the tail bumper of the lorry by the principle of locking hook. When the lorry driver loads the goods, it plays the role of locking the lorry to avoid sliding. It is a safety lock between the lorry and the dock leveler, which is used to eliminate the safety risks during loading operations.
THM-800
Rotating hook restraints
Rotating hook restraint is suitable for most models of lorry crash bars. The design of the spin hook type locking hook can restrict the movement of lorries with covers or other obstacles on the crash bar, which increases the safety performance, as well as the waterproof effect is better.
Loading Dock Restraints In Loading Dock Areas
To understand the importance of installing a loading dock restraint, we first need to understand the safety risks that may exist, and we will talk about the safety risks of not installing truck restraints.
1. Uninformed departure: the truck driver mistakenly drives the truck away while the forklift is still entering, leaving or inside the truck.
2. Slippage of the truck: the truck slips as the forklift truck enters and exits the truck with the force of the forklift truck's impact.
3. Collapse of floor supports: Weak or damaged floor supports collapse and the lorry tilts forward or falls to one side.
